Cardilia was named by Deshayes (1835) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiliidae by Vokes (1980), Lamprell and Healy (1998), Bouchet et al. (2010) and Signorelli and Carter (2016).
