Celtoides was named by Newell (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: P l P Guad-u]. Its type is Celtoides unioniformis.

It was assigned to Permophoridae by Newell (1957); to Permorphinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kalenteridae by Kiel (2018).
