Bathyurus acutus angustus was named by Ross (1970) [Paratypes: USNM 160878a-b]. Its type specimen is USNM 160877, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Bathyurus angustus by Ludvigsen (1979) and Tremblay and Westrop (1991).
