Bathyurus nevadensis was named by Ross and Barnes (1967) [Paratypes: USNM 145788-91. Hypotypes: GSC 57940-57958, U.A. 1716-1718]. Its type specimen is USNM 145787, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
