Taxonomy
Ampyx halli was named by Billings (1861) [Shaw (1968) named topotype because Billings' original type is lost.]. Its type specimen is NYSM 12279 (topotype) and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Lonchodomas halli by Raymond (1905).
