Basiliella was named by Kobayashi (1934).

It was reranked as Basilicus (Basiliella) by Zhou and Fortey (1986); it was synonymized subjectively with Basilicus by Jell and Adrain (2002).

It was assigned to Asaphinae by Harrington and Leanza (1957); to Basilicus by Zhou and Fortey (1986); and to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002).
