Cornucardia was named by Koken (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 94]. Its type is Craspedodon hornigii.

It was assigned to Dicerocardiidae by Vokes (1980); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
