Ctenocardia was named by Adams and A (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Cardium (Ctenocardia) by Abrard (1947).

It was assigned to Cardium by Abrard (1947); to Cardiidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fraginae by Vokes (1980) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
