Taxonomy
Dolichometopus convexus was named by Billings (1865). Its type specimen is GSC 718, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Bolbocephalus convexus by Fortey (1979) and Fortey and Bruton (2013).
