Taxonomy
Reticularia waageni was named by Loczy (1899).

It was recombined as Spirifer (Reticularia) waageni by Frech (1911) and Frech (1911); it was recombined as Squamularia waageni by Grabau (1931), Yang et al. (1977), Jin and Ye (1979), Jin et al. (1985) and Zeng et al. (1995); it was recombined as Permophricodothyris waageni by Zhan (1989) and Shi et al. (2002).
