Elegantula was named by de Gregario (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. Its type is Amphidesma striata.

It was reranked as Semele (Elegantula) by Coan et al. (2000) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Semele by Coan et al. (2000) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
