Taxonomy
Dasypodoidea was named by Gray (1821) [also attributed to Cabrera 1929]. It is extant.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Cingulata by Gaudin (1995); it was reranked as the unranked clade Dasypodoidea by Croft et al. (2007) and Shockey (2017).

It was assigned to Loricata by Carroll (1988); to Cingulata by Downing and White (1995); to Cingulata by Croft et al. (2007) and Shockey (2017); and to Cingulata by McKenna and Bell (1997), Rincón et al. (2008) and Herrera et al. (2017).
