Erycina was named by Lamarck (1805) [Sepkoski's age data: T Pale T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was assigned to Leptonidae by Glenn (1904); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Erycinidae by Maxwell (1992), Wienrich (1999) and Marquet (2005).
