Gaimardia was named by Gould (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gaimardiidae by Vokes (1980), Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
