Taxonomy
Gigantocyclus was named by Termier and Termier (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sepkoski's reference number: ZR77]. Its type is Gigantocyclus zidensis.

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lucinidae by Vokes (1980) and Taylor et al. (2011).
