Hodotermes was named by Hagen (1853). It is extant. It is the type genus of Hodotermitini.
It was assigned to Termitidae by Scudder (1890); to Calotermitinae by Froggatt (1897); and to Hodotermitidae by Carpenter (1992), Krishna et al. (2013) and Wang et al. (2022).
