Vishnuites was named by Diener (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Xenaspis (Vishnuites) by Diener (1897).

It was assigned to Xenaspis by Diener (1897); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ophiceratidae by Spath (1934), Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994) and Dai et al. (2019).
