Gouldia was named by Adams (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant. Its type is Thetis cerina.

It was reranked as Circe (Gouldia) by Dall and Simpson (1901); it was reranked as Crassinella (Gouldia) by Anderson (1928); it was reranked as Gafrarium (Gouldia) by Dey (1961).
