Gujocardita was named by Nakazawa and Newell (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 157,666]. Its type is Gujocardita oviformis.

It was assigned to Carditidae by Fang (1987); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
