Hemidonax was named by Mörch (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Donacidae by Vokes (1980); to Hemidonacidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992) and Beesley (1998); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
