Hysteroconcha was named by Dall (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant. Its type is Venus dione.

It was reranked as Pitaria (Hysteroconcha) by Pilsbry and Brown (1917); it was reranked as Amiantis (Hysteroconcha) by Grant and Gale (1931).

It was assigned to Pitaria by Pilsbry and Brown (1917); to Amiantis by Grant and Gale (1931); to Pitarinae by Woodring (1982); to Veneridae by Mukerjee (1939) and Todd (2001); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Callocardiinae by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
