Camarophoria mutabilis was named by Tschernyschew (1902).
It was recombined as Septacamera mutabilis by Thorsteinsson (1974); it was recombined as Stenoscisma mutabilis by Li and Gu (1980), Shi and Waterhouse (1996), Chen (2004) and Shen and Shi (2007).
