Taxonomy
Illionia was named by Billings (1874) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-l D Give-l]. Its type is Illionia canadensis.

It was assigned to Milthinae by Cox et al. (1969); to Lucinidae by Liljedahl (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
