Katelysia was named by Römer (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Veneridae by Oostingh (1935) and Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); to Tapetinae by Vokes (1980) and Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
