Liassophlebiidae was named by Tillyard (1925). It is not extant. Its type is Liassophlebia.
It was assigned to Odonata by Bode (1953); to Anisozygoptera by Tillyard (1925), Zeuner (1962), Whalley (1985) and Carpenter (1992); to Heterophlebioptera by Nel and Petrulevičius (2005); and to Heterophlebioidea by Pritykina (1970), Nel et al. (1993), Bechly (2007) and Kelly and Nel (2018).
