Limipecten hubeiensis was named by Zhang (1977). Its type specimen is IV55206, a valve, and it is a mold. Its type locality is Chuanjihe, Upper Permian, Laifeng County, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian marine horizon in China.
