Paracarsonus was named by Hamilton (1990). Its type is Paracarsonus aphrodoides. It is the type genus of Paracarsonini.
It was assigned to Jascopidae by Hamilton (1992); to Ledrinae by Dietrich et al. (2017); and to Paracarsonini by Hamilton (1990), Menon et al. (2007) and Chen et al. (2018).
