E. A. Cadena et al. 2010 | as for type species: "Cerrejonemys wayuunaiki differs from all other panpelomedusoids (sensu this study) in having small ventral ridges on the medial margin of the dentary, an acute symphyseal angle between the dentaries, and a carapace and plastron both reaching a thickness of 35 mm. It further differs from Podocne- mis spp. in the absence of an interorbital sulcus at the sutural contact between both prefrontals, a relatively longer prefrontal bone, and the absence of accessory ridges on the triturating sur- face of the dentary."
