Mutiella was named by Stoliczka (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-l K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 790]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Fimbriidae by Cox et al. (1969) and Vokes (1980); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
