Mysella was named by Angas (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 700]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Leptonidae by Ward and Blackwelder (1987); to Galeommatidae by Lamprell and Healy (1998); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Montacutidae by Vokes (1980), Beu et al. (1990), Wienrich (1999), Marquet (2005) and Schneider et al. (2005).
