Neaeromya was named by Gabe (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R]. It is extant. Its type is Neaeromya subquadrata.

It was assigned to Montacutidae by Moore (1992); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lasaeidae by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
