Taxonomy
Nicaniella was named by Chavan (1945) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 93,914]. It is not extant. Its type is Astarte communis.

It was assigned to Astartinae by Cox et al. (1969) and Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Astartidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
