Taxonomy
Heterophlebia westwoodii was named by Hagen (1850). It is an impression. Its type locality is Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, which is in a Rhaetian marine limestone in the Insect Bed Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Tarsophlebia westwoodi by Hagen (1866) and Handlirsch (1906); it was corrected as Heterophlebia westwoodi by Kirby (1890); it was recombined as Liassophlebia westwoodi by Tillyard (1925).
