Xenopteridae was named by Riek (1955). It is not extant. Its type is Xenopterum.
It was synonymized subjectively with Triassomanteidae by Sharov (1968) and Carpenter (1992).
It was assigned to Ensifera by Riek (1955); to Xenopteroida by Wappler (2001); and to Xenopteroidea by Gorochov (1995), Gorochov (2005) and van Dijk and Gorochov (2011).
It was synonymized subjectively with Triassomanteidae by Sharov (1968) and Carpenter (1992).
