Taxonomy
Kirkbyellidae was named by Sohn (1961). Its type is Kirkbyella. It is the type family of Kirkbyelloidea.

It was assigned to Drepanellacea by Tilman (1984); to Kirkbyoidea by Crasquin-Soleau (1997); and to Kirkbyelloidea by Liebau (2005).
