Pleiorytis was named by Conrad (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m T Plio-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Petricola striata.
It was assigned to Petricolidae by Woodring (1982) and Ward (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
