Taxonomy
Callithaca was named by Dall (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. Its type is Tapes tenerrima.

It was reranked as Protothaca (Callithaca) by Coan et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Protothaca by Coan et al. (2000); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Venerinae by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
