Pseudastarte was named by Cossmann (1921) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett]. Its type is Pseudastarte emarginata.

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiniidae by Vokes (1980) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
