Fulgoridium was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is the type genus of Fulgoridiinae.

It was assigned to Fulgoridae by Handlirsch (1906) and Bode (1953); and to Fulgoridiidae by Ansorge (1996) and Szwedo et al. (2004).
