Richthofenia sicula was named by Gemmellaro (1894).
It was recombined as Coscinarina sicula by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960); it was recombined as Sicularia sicula by Grant (1993), Verna and Angiolini (2010) and Galeana-Moran et al. (2022).
