Protohertzina was named by Missarzhevsky (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: V (N-Da-l)-Cm(Boto-l)]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Protohertzina anabarica.
It was assigned to Furnishinidae by Clark et al. (1981) and Azmi and Pancholi (1983); to Protoconodontida by Sepkoski (2002); to Protoconodonta by Parkhaev and Demidenko (2010); and to Chaetognatha by Kouchinsky et al. (2017).
