Pteromyrtea was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani Q Plei].

It was reranked as Megaxinus (Pteromyrtea) by Cox et al. (1969).

It was assigned to Megaxinus by Cox et al. (1969); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lucinidae by Beu et al. (1990) and Beu (2006).
