Pteropsella was named by Vokes (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l T Eo-m-u Sepkoski's reference number: 700,914]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pteropsellinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kymatoxinae by Signorelli and Carter (2016).
