Taxonomy
Pitaria (Rhabdopitaria) was named by Palmer (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Eo-m-u Sepkoski's reference number: 700]. Its type is Callocardia astartoides.

It was reranked as Rhabdopitaria by Stenzel et al. (1957), Vokes (1980) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Pitaria by Palmer (1927); to Pitarinae by Stenzel et al. (1957) and Vokes (1980); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
