Massilina was named by Schlumberger (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 79]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Miliolidae by Cushman (1927) and Gibson (1983); to Hauerininae by Loeblich and Tappan (1988); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
