Scambula was named by Conrad (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp K Maes-u]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Crassatellites (Scambula) by Dall (1903) and Johnson (1905); it was reranked as Anthomya (Scambula) by Stewart (1930).

It was assigned to Crassatellites by Dall (1903) and Johnson (1905); to Anthonya by Stewart (1930); to Scambulinae by Vokes (1980) and Wingard (1993); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
