Siliqua was named by Mühlfeld (1811) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Solenidae by Packard (1922), Nagao (1928) and Oostingh (1935); to Cultellidae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pharidae by Lamprell and Healy (1998), Moore (2003) and Rosenberg et al. (2006); and to Siliquinae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
