Taxonomy
Sportella was named by Deshayes (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Sportellidae by Glenn (1904), Vokes (1980), Dockery (1982), Ward and Blackwelder (1987) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
