Taxonomy
Stewartia was named by Olsson (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 985]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Megaxinus by Cox et al. (1969).

It was assigned to Lucinidae by Ward and Blackwelder (1987); to Lucininae by Vokes (1980) and Ward (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
