Storthodon was named by Giebel (1856) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Sepkoski's reference number: 94]. It is not extant. Its type is Storthodon liscaviensis.
It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Thyasiridae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
